We have all messed up at one time or another. Saying or doing the wrong thing is a part of life and a big part of growing up. Ultimately this is how we learn and getting some feedback from others helps us to establish our boundaries, which we may not have been clear about in the realm acceptable and non-acceptable behaviour.
However, that scenario does not apply to all individuals, especially those who suffer from dysfunctional anger and stress problems. Understanding a simple mistake and changing one’s behaviour for some is not so straight forward. Even being motivated to change isn’t enough, even at the consequence of losing all that is important.
So why is this so? Why in the face of great shame and turmoil and in the face of losing our wife, children, home, friends or job, do we revert to our old ways in the days, weeks or a months after we have made all the promises to change for good?
The fact of the matter is that real, lasting, ever increasing and meaningful change takes place on a deeper level than simply wanting to. The causes of our emotional reactions are rooted in the mind, out of reach of our everyday thinking, and only manifest in threatening situations in an attempt to regain control. They are like seeds which lie dormant in the mind, planted as a result of previous negative experiences and consequential thinking, which ripen to protect us when the situation arises. One’s anger and stress responses, however, can become dysfunctional and that is evident when everyday situations become a trigger.
Yes You Can Change
Even so, lasting change is possible if there is the desire to do so, but there are other factors too. Being guided through the process is essential, because without it you will be railroaded by confusion, denial and frustration. And if that’s not enough by a lack of motivation as well.
Here at Anger and Stress Management SOS we have got all of that covered. We developed The Self Cycle System to guide your journey, and we have live programs to suit all of your needs and situations. Simply go to Services and see what is on offer for yourself.
